I'm a writer and editor in New York by way of California. My writing on visual culture and literature has appeared in The Nation, The Baffler, The Brooklyn Rail, The Drift, Los Angeles Review of Books, Spike Art, and more. I hold a BA in Political Science from Emory University and an MA in Cultural Reporting & Criticism from New York University, where I also studied Art History in the Institute of Fine Arts.
I currently serve as the engagement editor at The Nation and a commissioning editor at Cleveland Review of Books. I am a member of the Newsguild of New York.
In the past I have worked as a photographer, participated in speaking engagements, and spoken on podcasts.
